E 294 days ago by Jillian Wilson Recently the Courier News did an article on the seeming death of the TV theme song. After reading it I have to say I agree with their idea completely and its kind of sad, not every fan knows it but Gavin DeGraw didnft really get started until one of his songs was picked up for One-Tree Hill as its opening theme, in fact alot of artists really implanted their names into our culture by making tv theme songs. Heres a little sample of the article: gItfs a rarity today,h TV historian Tim Brooks said of the catchy, tuneful opening. gItfs kind of like the Broadway musical producing hit songs - it just doesnft do that anymore.hamazon kindle Back in the day, even into the e90s, shows usually had a gmain title,h a 40 to 60-second opening montage that introduced the cast and was often set to music written by a composer, said Jon Burlingame, author of TVfs Biggest Hits, a history of themes. Songs summed up what a show was all about, whether spinning the tale of how a group of wacky castaways ended up on Gilliganfs Island, telling how a spunky single career woman was ggoing to make it after all,h or describing why six touchy-feely Manhattan singles were there for each other. But you can view the entire article here if your interested.
